After Himalayan Travel Mart in Kathmandu, we spent a relaxing couple of days at the highly Instagram-worthy Rupakot Resort just outside Pokhara. Now it was time for us to head into the town itself to explore.
Heritage Hotel Suites & Spa
Mr. Rabi Chandra, the Managing Director at Heritage Hotel Suites & Spa — a luxury boutique hotel in the heart of Pokhara lakeside — set us up with such a great experience at Rupakot Resort that we had high hopes for Heritage, and we were certainly not left disappointed.
Heritage Hotel Suites & Spa is situated just off the main strip along Pokhara’s lakeside. We like to hoof it around new neighbourhoods and the hotel’s location was perfect for us — we found everything we needed to be within easy walking distance.
We spent our first night at Heritage Hotel Suites & Spa in one of the lovely standard rooms, which had perhaps the most high-tech shower we’ve seen on our travels.
With shower heads and jets aplenty, the shower was a welcome massage in miniature after an extended walk through the lively town centre.
For our second night, we found ourselves upgraded to a junior suite, complete with kitchenette, seating area, and sweeping balcony.
We knew we’d be saddened by our early morning check out to catch the bus back to Kathmandu, so we made every excuse to stay in the room to fully appreciate the comfort.
The balcony just outside the junior suite was our chill out zone. A couple of chairs there would’ve made the setting perfect.
For visitors who judge a place by its Instagram photo worthiness, Heritage Hotel Suites & Spa is sure to win them over. The high end traditional furnishings and attention to detail throughout the hotel are sure to leave an impression.
There are currently two buildings that make up the hotel grounds, with elegant and colourful views from both.
Heritage Hotel Suites & Spa is also in the middle of refurbishing an additional building to add to its room count, but we never noticed any construction noise.
Future plans for Heritage Hotel Suites & Spa include a snooker/pool room, home theatre systems, and a discotheque.
Since we were only in Pokhara for less than 48 hours we only ate at the onsite restaurant once, but the food, ambiance, and staff were all top-notch in our books.
What to Do in Pokhara, Nepal
Pokhara is the jumping off point for trips to the Annapurna Circuit, but that doesn’t mean there’s a lack of activity within the town itself.
Since Pokhara is nestled along the eastern side of Fewa Lake, many of the activities are water based.
Self row boats are available for a fixed rate to explore the lake at your own pace, or you can join a hired boat to take you across.
One of the big draws here is Tal Baraji Temple, located about midway across the lake. This two-story pagoda is a Hindu temple dedicated to the Goddess Durga, and oftentimes you can spot devotees bringing across animals for sacrifice.
The town itself lends itself to walking, and a stroll along the lake is vital to fully appreciate the beauty of Pokhara.
Taking in the sunset along the shoreline is a must, and the many quaint restaurants and bars along the lakeside offer stellar views (and brews) to make your visit a memorable one.
If you’ve been to Kathmandu, the calming effect of this great little lakeside town will be a welcome respite from the congestion and noise.
For us, combining a couple of days at Heritage Hotel Suites & Spa with a couple of days at Rupakot Resort was a perfect way to explore this region of Nepal.
